We left for a night away to Presque Isle, visiting Easton & Fort Fairfield... there we visited the metal shop (Enos, Abe & two other fellows, one from New York State) who would be moving to the dwelling they were working on. That was after getting directions from Enos's wife, meeting his little darlings at the same time (:
We dropped in to find Anna at home, baking bread & quilting. The fella's had a cup of coffee, Marika visited the attached ladies room (;
Back in to Presque Isle first for a hearty meal at Bonanza's, a Ponderosa, reminding me of going as a child with my parents & sibilings.
After dinner we stopped at the bulk food store, owned by Anna's parents. Marika found some sour cherry candies which she shared with the girls from Daniel. I bought cinnamon, honey, vanilla and date, nut pinwheel cookies which we ate on the way back to Fredericton. The attached furniture room had beautiful pieces made by their father... especially loved the 'western' saddle stool.
We found Mrs. Yoder in the house with her young daughters, mopping the floor they were, and getting hair ready for Sunday. A dress was in the making on the treadle machine. Dan came in while she made the boys another cup of coffee, and served it with a fresh piece of simple cake. Jaden thought it was so good, even after such a large meal in town.
Warm stove, hand made rockers, clocks on the wall, socks hanging to dry, straw and felt hats on the hooks... the floor was clean and made of strong hard wood... oil lamps waiting on the mantle of hand made furniture pieces.
The spoke about their trip to Missouri, Kentucky, to visit a daughter... the long bus rides, full bus... waiting for the next...
the family ran the farm, shoveling manure trenches, hand milking... one person on each side of the cow, she said, works better for the let down... four hands on four teets (:
We toured through the barn & stables, dog watching us... paint team pulling the home made dump wagon... a new wagon in the works in the shop, all green ~ Hi to Ezra there.
To be in time for the small border crossing we left for Fton, finished shopping for Jaden's size 13 feet & Marika, shorts for summer & Cuba
A friend asked me to take a photo, I snapped a very quick one just for her...
On the way down we stopped to see Tarita, coffee & rice crispie squares made by the girls. Saw Noah & Sophie's first litter... too cute!
Ron particularly liked the lambs, the markings on the goats were cute too.
What a good mama, still a pup herself
Josh loved to pick up the goats. He wanted to stop again on the way home...
... to spend time with Anna Lee & Annie we had to get moving... home Saturday evening, drove in the fog...
~ managed to get a lesson in before we left. On Thursday, after school, Ollie was a great teacher & he's only coming 5... love him!
It's noon time on Monday... I'm still there in my mind...
May have to make date pinwheel cookies later today...
Warm thoughts ~
